First off I had to find where the speedo sensor conector was situated. It is just in front of and above the battery.
The connector was hard to get apart and I needed to help with a small screwdriver. The SpeedoDRD coinnectors fit straight in.
I then tucked the connectors back in so that the panel will fit back OK.
At this stage I placed the programmer button just above the toolbox so that I could replace the panel but have easy acess to adjust the SpeedoDRD.
I switched on the GPS and took the WRR out for a spin. The speedo was reading 60mph when the "true" speed showing on the GPS was 50mph.
A quick calculation ((GPS speed of 50mph / Speedo reading of 60mph) * 100 ) - 100 = -16.7
I fed this negative number into the SpeedoDRD and took the bike out for another test run and the speedo was reading near enough to exactly the GPS speed for me not to worry about making any further adjustment. I removed the side panel and zip tied the cabling in tidily and job done - remarkably simple!
That has got to be the easiest speedo fix! Also, I know that if I alter the gearing in the future it will be a simple job to correct the speedo again

I gave up with calculators and readings as they didn't seem to give the right result. A trial and error approach worked best, ending up with -15.5 programmed in, and now reading 1 mph faster that actual speed at the all important 30mph. Good result, and easy to fit.
I've had great experience with 12 o'clock labs as a company before. A1 for compact neat tidy design and function. Shame the DRD seems only able to correct the speedo OR the odo and not both (please anyone shout if you know me to be wrong about that). I may check out the V4 speedo healer from Healtech in the hope of correcting both. Any thoughts from users of either device are much appreciated.
Thanks for the thought provoking question Brian. I'm really not sure at this point if the odo has a sperate feed. The more i investigate, the more i'm starting to feel that the Healtech V4 will maybe do no better a job than the 12 o'clock labs device. If i do find this to be the case, i would certainly choose 12 o'clock labs as it is much better value for money and can be picked up via Totally WRs, which is a plus.
To get both speedo and odo bang on 100% perfect (once having made much needed gearing alterations), seems near damn impossible with any device available on the market. The issue would appear to lie with the ECU or gauge cluster ( i'm guessing cluster and maybe no seperate feed but i will look into this more carefully to be sure).
However, once the 12 o'clock labs distance error rate and speed error rate equations are understood and taken into account, it appears the user can not only choose Speedo100% or Odo 100%, but actually minipulate the figures and choose to sit in the middle with a small margin of error upon both. I didn't realise sitting in the middle could be achieved and is then maybe only a few percent out, although on both. I am probably trying to be far to much of a perfectionist and it'll be my down fall one day. If there's an overall error rate of say 6%, maybe i can just split it 3% ethier way. Will barely notice it then.
Quite clearly i need to do some more research and investigation on this one. Work is unfortunately going to now get in the way up until christmas, but i shall continue to gather up as much info as possible over the coming weeks and will certainly look into that seperate feed.
Thanks for the heads up Brian, you may have just saved me paying almost twice as much for the Healtech.
...Info update. In the depths of the FAQ's upon Healtechs site for the SH V4, i have found this;
Will the SH calibrate both my speedo and odometer? Yes, but it is not possible to calibrate them separately, as one speed signal drives both the speedometer and the odometer. On most bikes, if the speedo is calibrated to be 100% accurate, the odo will register slightly less miles. While this can be annoying in certain situations, one can always calculate the real distance easily after a long trip. Alternatively, of course, you can get the factory default indications regardless of the used gearing: accurate odometer and slightly optimistic speedo.
...It would seem that Healtech are no better at correcting both the speedo and odo than 12 o'clock Labs can. There would seem to be no seperate feed to the odo, just one signal driving both. It's either speedo 100% perfect, odo 100% perfect or sit in the middle for a little error upon both. This now being the case, the DRD wins hands down. It is cheaper, is just as effective, is available easily via Totally WR's and of course has much help and info in regards to installation/ use right here on this superb little forum.
Thanks again Brian. Looks like I'll be in touch with another order real soon . I sure do owe you a drink should we meet up at an event next year.
After the deliberation upon which speedo healer, i cracked on and addressed the re gearing, 13/ 48 (truely awesome). The next morning I couldn't help myself and got on to it with the 12 o'clock Labs speedo healer right away. Having straped up my mobile to the bars for a GPS speedo, the equations were a breeze and found myself needing negative 20.5% with the 13/ 48 gearing and a stock trail wing tyre (I will adjust healer again later for a larger Mitas CO2 rear when installed) Initaily feeling a little worried about having to program the chip, it really actually couldn't have been quicker or easier a job...10 mins all in.
Thanks for your tips above Brian. I found having the chip sticking out near the tool tube to begin with a great idea. Just like Steve i did a little trial and error to dial it in a little more accuratley over the morning riding. By the thrid adjustment i no longer needed to keep reading the programing instructions . I'd also like to compare it against other speedo apps and vehicles i have over the coming weeks for further accuracy.
As for the Odometer. Again a few more tests to do over the coming weeks, but seems about 5% out when speedo is now bang on perfect. Much to my surprise, the opposite way to which i expected. For every real 1000 miles travelled, the Odo will now record 950. I'm very okay with this ...LOL.
Happy days 12 o'clock Labs and thanks again to Totally WRs.
It's good when a plan comes together! I confess that I had only ever thought about getting an accurate speedo reading and hadn't taken into consideration the odo.
Haven't done much myself lately as been feeling low. A rash appears on my back so Trish packed me off to the docs who diagnosed shingles
At least I got an excuse for lacking energy and motivation now
...Ah. I'm really sorry to hear you're feeling so unwell Brian . Plenty of rest and healthy food in order this Christmas hey. That's great to hear Trish is there to help take care of you (good call on the docs Trish).
I do hope you bounce back quickly and start feeling yourself again real soon buddy
I had a problem with my speedometer and odometer being off after I changed the rear sprocket on my wr250r. My speedometer was off by 25%. I bought a SpeedCali at SpeedCali.com it was really easy to calibrate and it was pretty cheap. I'd recommend it.
