Went out for a little ride out for fish and chips seen as it was a nice day, when I came back to the bike I went to start it, it fired then died then would not restart. The fuel pump was not buzzing like it should on it's prime cycle. My first thoughts were 2008 , early wrx, - fuel pump. Anyway I thought I had best not just go off what I had read on the forum so I set to work with the tool kit in the middle of thirsk market place. Checked all fuses, electrical block connectors, wiggling wires etc trying to get the fuel pump to buzz but nothing. After an hour and a half I was about to throw in the towel when there was a little buzz from the pump so I cranked it, it fired then died, I then left it for about another 20 mins and tried again and the pump buzzed back to life and the bike fired straight up so jumped on it and got me back home, it's now starting ok but it takes 5 or 6 seconds of buzzing to prime. It has got to be the fuel pump at fault. The bike has a month of dealer warranty left so hopefully they will replace the pump, will hopefully find out on Monday!
I had to leave it for about an hour 30 and then it would start, could you give me an info on your repair not so local dealer has quoted me just shy of £400.
Does sound right to you, also claimed never heared of the problem my bike is an 09 year.
I was really lucky as I had bought my bike from a yamaha dealer and it had pump failure just before the 3 month warranty ran out, they were really good and sent me a new pump, I believe they are around £300 retail price. I fitted it myself, quite an easy job, you just need the tank off then take out a ring of bolts. The dealer said they had not had a problem with them but I found a lot of info about pump failures in hot weather on the USA based wr250 site. Apparently it was a bad batch of early pumps so at least if you have to fork out for a new one you shouldn't have the same problem again!
If you can get the pump for around £100, there maybe some import tax etc to pay on that, then at least when it's fitted you shouldn't have any more problems! I have looked at parts on boats.net I think its called but never bought anything.
