Picked up my WR 2 weeks ago and jetted of to Mexico the next day, just got back today and went down to the garage to bring a smile to my face, as you can tell from my username the bike is a 2008 import from the USA With a silver frame. Some of you may have seen it a couple of weeks ago on eBay. I will post a few photos this weekend and list the mods it has but not before I have been out for a ride to put a big smile on my face.😀 Cheers Simon
I'm unsure what or if there are any differences on the USA model and hope to find out over the next few weeks but my first impression is that it's the same apart from the frame and swinging arm Colour. I think the USA models may have been down on power due to the exhaust to pass there emissions test, but this one has had the FMF exhaust, power bomb and exup eliminator done with the drd speedo mode.
This weekend will give me a better idea once I had a decent ride on it.😀
Really sweet bike. I do actually remember it popping up a couple of weeks back as my buddy missed out on it by not moving fast enough!
Don't think there should be any particular differences with it being a U.S model, unless it came from California and could have a little extra emissions junk installed (cat and so on). That said i do remember messing with the CO settings on my bike previously. To gain access, our E.U bikes just need a sequence of buttons to be pressed and you're in. Our U.S friends must first make a jump wire that bridges in somewhere around the lean angle sensor if i remember correctly (i have instructions buried somewhere). Then they press the sequence of buttons to gain entry. Only a small difference, but a difference none the less and maybe there might be a few more similar. I really don't think they're differences that actually matter though .
I happen to think that the silver swing arm and frame look great. Surprised that you don't have the gold forks coming from the States though?
Have a great weekend out. Take and post up a few action shots if the moment presents itself too!
Yes I was lucky to get it as the seller had put it on to auction and had loads of enquiries about so he decided to put a buy it now price on and I bought it straight away which was good for me as I would of been abroad when the auction ended.
The forks are a very light gold which doesn't show in the photo but I'm not sure if it's the same gold as the EU bikes.
I need to have a good look at it this weekend as I haven't had a good look yet so it's seat off to see if it has a power comander fitted and check out the size of the rear sprocket which has been changed, I will put a post on to see what you all think of the gearing set up and let you know what it's been like on its first outing.
As I live in Hampshire I am struggling to find anywhere to ride without going over to Salisbury plain, so if any one has any good places to go in the area I would appreciate a heads up.
There is another nice WR on eBay at the moment which is typical as it took me over 6 months to find mine!
I don't know if the link is publicly viewable but here it is anyway! http://devongtrf.activeboard.com/t61757673/hampshire-wiltshire-weekend/
On the Devon TRF Group forum. Maybe you know the guy?
Brian
PS Here is is his message:
Anyone interested in a weekend over here in Wilts and Hants.
If so I'm more than happy to show you about.
I have a couple of nice B&Bs on my doorstep and secure bike storage available.
Evening meal at local pub can be arranged which also has B&B available. Lunch on the fly, garage pie or sarnies.
I can probably host 4-6 riders and will offer between 100-150 miles perday possibly more depending on time of year/progress made.
Probably aim for 9.30 start Saturday and 10.00 Sunday but can be flexible.
Full workshop facilities should you need to do any overnight repairs and a healthy stock of ktm/Husqvarna spares (this isn't an open invite to have your bike serviced!)
No dates set so discuss amongst yourselves and let me know, as long as it doesn't clash with any ATRC Rally rounds ill be free.
Its not too technical here but can be slippery at times on the chalk. My head nav has loads of routes and lanes stored and I expect no lanes will be done twice.
Not huge amounts of road work but there may be road sections as we traverse between lanes.
We will need to trek on if you want to do the miles so maybe not ideal for complete novices.
...You thinking of going to this one too Brian? Could be possibly interested myself. Just watching the guys haggle out a date on the link you posted. Looking like the 4-5th June at the mo.
...smiles. I was thinking similar in respect of away days Brian. Wales, Spain and more recently France being my pulls.
That said, Hampshire is not a million miles away from East Sussex (where i'm currently situated). Maybe i could make just the Saturday at the very least.
Are you a fully fledged member of the TRF Simon as i'm sure this ride out would require you to be?
As I live in Hampshire I am struggling to find anywhere to ride without going over to Salisbury plain, so if any one has any good places to go in the area I would appreciate a heads up.
Really? Hampshire is trailriding heaven? If you don't get a ride organised, or are still struggling to find lanes to ride, get back on this forum and I'll try to take you out.
It won't be as frantic as the ride on the link though. Probably 100 miles max, at a sensible speed. I live in Poole, so we could meet somewhere mutually suitable.
Alternatively (and best of all), join the TRF, go to your local group (Southern) and you'll soon be riding lanes beyond your dreams!
If you happen to jump on board the Hampshire TRF outing Simon, just shout and you can count me in too.
Alternatively if you wanted to take up Steve on his very kind offer, i'd jump at the opportunity to join you both and make it an all out WRR good old time.
My map skills aren't quite what they should be for leadership (i blame it on not having the cash for a proper GPS unit and still struggling by using my phone ). That said i know my area pretty well over here in East Sussex and would happily show you guys round over here sometime too.
thanks and and I will be joining the TRF this weekend so that I can go to some meets and ride outs, but if your up for meeting up I would greatly appreciate it and it looks like Paul would come along as well.
The reason I said Salisbury plain is that I'm ex services so the limited off road I have ever done has been on the plain and at Boredon. I'm getting nervous that my skill level is going to a lot lower than everyone else on the forum😁
Any Saturday in April is fine with me and greatly appreciated. Had a good look over the bike at the weekend and it seems to have had every mod that people recommend which means the price I paid seems to be very good. Not the last owner but the one before was a member of the TRF as there is a 2012 sticker on the bike and I believe it was him who carried out all of the modifications.
I've ordered a lowering link from Brian which should arrive tomorrow which I can fit at the weekend but the height wasn't to bad as I did 50 miles on it at the weekend.
Thinking about a start point, Salisbury would be good. How does that sound for you guys? As Paul is coming in a van, I guess that's not a problem for him? But what about Simon?
2nd April looks good for me. Shall we make it a date?
Lovely break in the clouds as you lurk in the shadows there Simon .
Very, very much looking forward to Saturday. I too have been counting the days down. I'm particularly looking forward to it being an all out WR fest.
I just noticed i had a private message from Steve in regards to a map for my new Sat Nav. When i hear back, i'll have a word about where we might meet and for what time, will then let you know.
