WR250R wheels - what will fit?

Here's a technical question regarding WRR wheels.  I want a second rear 18" wheel for winter/summer (or Devon/Dorset) riding.  WRR ones just don't exist as second hand.  Does anyone know what other Yamaha models will fit.  I think  YZ125/250 wheels might, but which model years?  Also, they are normally 19"  Any suggestions much appreciated.

I asked Talon for a price but never got a reply (they don't list WRR in the online catalogue).  There's a few aftermarket suppliers, but a bit beyond my means for a spare wheel.

I will have a look at the possibility of a TTR rear wheel fitting tomorrow but a bit of Googling suggest we will probably be out of luck cry

WRXs seem to go more cheaply than WRRs so I bought a 21" front wheel complete ready for a conversion but not seen any WRR rears up for sale in ages......

I think the TTR uses a smaller diameter spindle.  Anyone friendly with their Yamaha main dealer?  I've tried to get a part number for the WRR wheel, but have only found the component parts listed.

Where might I enquire about a new genuine Yamaha wheel? (although I expect it's going to be expensive!)

Sorry I didn't get around to doing the comparison Steve. Suffering from the man flu and my brain and body have not working too well disbelief

I cannot find the rear wheel listed complete so, if you decide to buy new, you would need to buy the hub, spoke set and rim and lace it together.

I worked out the retail price of the parts inc. VAT would be £240.90 plus a bearing and seal kit at £16.25 - grand total £257.15

You would need to then add the cost of building the wheel (if you didn't do it yourself), rim tape, tube and tyre.

Whoops - add in the cost of the rim to the above!!!!

Some TTR dimensions to be going on with:

Axle diameter 20mm (WRR axle is 22mm)

Overall width inc. spacers 185mm (WRR is 193mm so an 8mm difference)

TTR rear wheel takes 3 x 60/22 2RS size bearings - 22x44x12  and oil seals 2 x 28x47x7

The difference of 2mm between the TTR axle diameter and the bearing ID is because the inside ends of the spacers fit inside the bearings to take up the slack.

The internal diameter of the WRR bearings is 22mm and the spacers sit outside the bearing hence the 22mm diameter axle on the WRR.

Leaving out the spacers on the TTR means the WRR axle will fit smile

I tried a TTR wheel in the WRR this morning and it looks a do-able conversion if you can get the spacers made up to centralise the wheel also making sure the sprocket and disc properly line up.

The pics below show the TTR wheel with its spacers still fitted and held in with the (too short) TTR axle. You can easily see the gaps.

Yes, very interesting.  I have a bit of a concern as to whether the disc would line up correctly, as I guess that would need to be spot on.

And getting the exact distances for the spacers would be important too.  It's promising though, and might be a good way to get a reasonably priced spare.  I'm not sure what to do next.  Ideally, Mr TTR would look into it in detail and get the spacers machined up to sell along with a requisite wheel!  Not sure how much market there would be.

Anyone else on this forum that might be interested?

I would like a second set of wheels for my Wr. Does anybody know if any other wheels fit the WR 250r, without doing much modification.

Cheers

Phil

Are you talking SM wheels or just an extra set of 18, 21's?

SM's seem to need a lot of bits and pieces to be swapped over...rotor ect. Hubs are different so maybe even different axel too??? I'm sure some bright spark out there must know a simple solution for a quick switch over. Sorry i can't be of more help. Shout back here if you happen to find out any info else where though.

If just an 18, 21's second set you're after, Talon Excel or Warp 9's have great reviews.

I asked Talon about a rear once and they never got back to me.  I'm interested to hear an answer to this too as I've been looking for a second hand rear 18" for ages.

...Grrrr. I had another look around and found the same Phil. Sorry bud, looks like best things come to those who wait.

I have a few bits enroute from the States myself, always worth it for specialist one off bits and pieces. I can't expect the legendary Totally WR's over here to stock everything that's shiny and glitters...biggrin
