I own the x version (supermoto) and have been invited on a trip from northyorkshire down to Portsmouth then ferry to Santander then ride back up over Pyrenees , France then ferry back from st. Malo. Around a ten days road trip. I was originally going to buy a cheap ish cbr600f for the trip but by the time I have bought and insured the bike along with the cost of the trip I am looking at quite a lot of money so I am thinking about getting a gel seat and larger tank for the wrx. Am I mad for thinking of doing this? The bike will comfortably cruise at 70-75 but it will do 80-90 but flat out, I feel I might be asking a lot of the bike as some days we would be doing 300 miles or so.
has anyone done any long distance trips on road on these bikes?
My initial impression of my WR250R is that it is a great road bike and I wouldn't hesitate to do the trip you describe on it. Gel seat and big tank would help the cause though.
"Dude", owner of this forum, had a WRR with a "Seat Concepts" seat on it and it is super comfortable. His WRR went to another mate in Exmouth (Olly Cooke) and he lent me the seat to use whilst I waited delivery of my new one so that's how I know it's nice plus I swapped bikes with Olly and did quite a few trail miles on the seat with no discomfort
Also, the service intervals are so high that you wouldn't need to touch anything whilst you are away!
Hi Brian, thanks for your advise and the link, I am confident that the bike will be up to the job and with a seat and tank upgrade even better. I may have to have a test ride out in a month or two with the other guys who are going as they have bigger road bikes and depending on what sort of speeds they are happy touring at I may end up been left behind or end up thrashing the bike to destruction to keep up! The mrs has told me I can go on the trip but made it very clear that if I want to buy a new bike to go with one of my other bikes would have to be sold ! That would be a very hard choice and possibly the ttr would be in the line of fire!!!
I don't think I'd fancy that Adam. I think you would have to thrash the bike to keep up. Even on overtakes or at junctions etc. I would be tempted to buy a bike for the trip and sell it afterwards. Plenty of 600s out there.
