Lowering the WRR

I have read a few articles on how to lower the WRR using the adjustment at the bottom of the shock.

The last guide (see below) suggest that you don't have to undo the lower shock mount. Is that because you can spin the shock body?

Lowering the seat height

The first mod I usually do is to lower the seat height because I have only a 28" inseam. If I wanna' ride, I gotta' be able to get on and off the bike easily. Yamaha has provided a ride-height adjuster on the shock. Here is what I did:
Screwed the rebound adjuster (black knob) clockwise, all the way in, and then unscrewed it a full 25 clicks plus 2 more for good measure.
Loosened the large nut that was seated against the lower shock mount.
Removed the bolt from the lower shock mount.
Turned the nut up the shock shaft until the nut just touched the rebound adjuster knob.
Screwed the lower shock mount further up the shock shaft until it touched the large nut.
Replaced the lower shock mount bolt.
Snugged the nut against the lower shock mount.
Re-adjusted the rebound adjuster.
I later learned that you don't have to undo the lower shock mount.

I didn't get a response to my question about not having to remove the link so I disconnected the lower shock mount anyway to do the "free" lowering trick.

It didn't look as if anyone had lowered the bike before but I was disappointed at how little I gained using the method described in my first post in this thread.

Having done a bit of Googling, I found a good (free!!) suggestion to lose a bit more height. This involved removing the "knuckle" that clamps to the shock and cutting a 7mm wafer off it.

The knuckle was nicely dirty so was easy to mark up!

My hacksaw has seen better days and I can't get the blade properly tight so my cut was a bit wonky disbelief

I therefore had quite a bit of work to do to tidy it up but it looked OK in the end.

Upon refitting, I discovered a flaw in my plan in that the threaded section at the bottom of the shock came through to far too allow me to refit the knuckle to the link arm cry

If anyone else tries this then only take off 3-4mm although maybe this will be different for different bikes?

I then let the rear shock spring off a tad coz it is so easy to access.

I also dropped the front forks 13mm up through the fork yokes for good measure.

The end result is that I can now just about flat foot and feel safer mounting and dismounting. It is about half an inch higher than my TTR so all good really.

Maybe I can go and get it dirty if I can just quieten down that FMF confuse

Brian

Good work Brian, I got the bike shop to adjust the knuckle to lower it before I picked it up, that was enough for me as the wrx sit lower on the 17 inch wheels anyway.

Nice effort on the lowering Brian. I'm thankful being 6' 1" not to have to get involved with the fun and games this time, but a buddy of mine will appreciate every mm shaved. The knuckle looked great come time for tea.
