Had a lot of bikes through the years. Right now a ktm 1290 sdr and my new purchase .... a yam wr250r 2016

Really happy with my new bikes.....but I do not like to having to buy aftermarket parts from the US.

Any good stores in Europe? Links to internetshops would be greatly appreciated :)

Welcome to the forum Bjorn! Sorry it is so quiet on here though cry

Steve at Totally WRs stocks quite a lot of after-market parts and accessories for the WR250R - see http://totallyttrs.com/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84/Categories/Shop/WR250R_and_WR250X_parts__accessories

His contact details are on the website if you need something not in his catalogue.

Best regards

Brian

Hi and welcome Bon I hope that things pick up around here once the weather warms up .
Sadly it does seem that the WR250r is not catered for very much with the aftermarket kit in the UK .I would love a new set of plastics but until some one does copy parts Im going to have to make do with the old ones.
Totally TTr are the best to deal with I have to say I have been very happy with their service, best buy is the PDF work shop manual worth every penny .
The real issue I have found with my WR250r has been parts, I live just down the road form a main Yamaha dealer and they never have my parts in stock its always a few weeks wait to get them .
If you log on to the Fowlers web site you can cross reference some parts that are used on other bikes so you can find parts on eBay that will fit.
My WRR has been off the road for about 5 months with a few issues, Im getting it home this weekend and Im looking forward to ridding it again.

Hi Nathan and welcome, well I think I have been a little unlucky with my bike. It was a replacement for a very beloved WR450f which sadly went when my ex failed to keep her knickers on .
Getting rid of one was a pleasure the other was the saddest day of my life.
The WR250r is defiantly not anywhere close to the 450 .
The WR250r is a solid bike with just a few small issues . I will try to be gentle.
1)There was a recall on the stator on them, if you write to Yamaha they will tell you if yours has had the replacement. Its free and mine was done 2016 ( the bike is 2008).
2) There is a major issue with the speedo on these bikes, its a very clever piece of kit and can do lots of things, sadly if you ever let you battery run flat it will lose its calibration and will become useless as a speedo .
Mine reads 199KPH at 50KPH and clocks up the miles at the same rate .
There is a fix but its not easy you have to buy a speedo healer which costs around £70 ( soon to be done ).
3) Look out for the cam chain tensioner I have had issues with mine as have a few other ones out there. The tensioner can be sluggish and will let the chain slip mine did it twice each time on start up no real damage but if you look at my post about it you will understand . Again there is a fix but its around £70 for a manual adjuster from the USA plus fitting cost.
4) The final one is parts, the WR250r is a great bike but it was very over priced when new. The result was nobody bought them so there are very few if no copy parts . Things like plastics have to be Yamaha only and there are high priced.Apart for the rear fender which is very cheap for some strange reason.
Other parts can be bought from the Yamaha dealers but not many of them will in in stock so it might be a week before you get the part you need .
Totallyttr.com do a fantastic job of getting parts and do a have a stock of parts in at very good prices.
In the end I have to say I do love my WR250R she has had to fill a hole in my garage which was never going to be easy. They are very well made and for green laning they are almost perfect fantastic MPG all help to make it a very wise buy. de. I have ridden many trail bike DR125,DT125, DRz400, XR250, TE610, KDX220, WR426 KTM450exc, Wr450F and the WR250r, if asked the WR450 was the best then the WR426 next would be the WR250r .
Enjoy your ride and keep your battery charged.
