NOISE FROM BASHPLATE
Permalink

Yet another question, I fitted a bashplate yesterday & now there is one hell of a racket, not sure it the engine noise is bouncing back up from the bashplate or it the vibs.  I'm sure it's been done to death on previous post but any help how to shut it up would be great

Terry

Hi Terry

I think the WRR is possibly worse than some other dirt bikes (like the TTR) in terms of the bashplate exaggerating the engine/transmission noise. I lined my bashplate with quarter inch high density foam matting and whilst it made a difference the WRR is still sooo much more civilised without the bashplate!

Agreed but without a bashplate the WRR would be dead without one, I have a huge dent in the TTR bashplate from rocks

Agreed - I wouldn't venture offroad without a bashplate.

Can't remember my bashplate making the bike sound noisy? Still, it was a while ago and my memories not what it was!  Now, where was I......

During the week I put some sound insulation on the bashplate, I cut it wide enough to go between the frame & the bashplate & was out on the bike today. It worked a treat & proved the point.
Once I get back from the UK I'll try spraying it with undercar black sound insulation, will also try rubber blocks between the frame & bashplate & see if it will do the trick

Was much nicer to ride without the vib/racket from the bashplate

Cheers Terry

Hi Terry
I have modified Acerbis plastic sump guard (as described on other WR forums!) to reduce engine noise as I use bike mostly for commuting. It works fine for w/e green laning but swop to ali bash plate for Isle of Man TT week.
cheers

Good job you made there.

Think I will start adding some self adhesive rubber pads to any future orders.
