hi all I have recently fitted a MDR front sprocket cover eventually after altering it to fit properly anyways I have the talon 13t front sprocket rental r3 chain and talon 48t rear and have noticed the front sprocket is polished on the outside near the teeth as if the inside of chain is catching the sprocket it must be to polish it its probably not much I'm just a bit concerned the rear wheels pretty true chain maybe on tight side but not much off its not taught ect is this something I should be concerned about or if anyone's any ideas the front sprocket was a tight fit on spline but its torqued to 69ftlb if anyone can help it will be appreciated thanks martin

Hi Martin

This looks normal to me, I have checked a talon sprocket on an R3 chain and the fit is perfect. Think what you are showing in the photo is natural wear of the two metal components coming into contact, creating that polished look.

Just put the bike in neutral and turn the chain, if the sprocket is catching the inside of the chain and pushing the chain over and not sitting in the middle, then you have an unlikely alignment problem.

Hope that helps.

Steve

Difficult to get a good photo but I think this one is good enough to show that my front sprocket is showing the same shiny wear marks and I haven't had any issues so I reckon all is OK so relax and ride!
